That tool is called Quick Mask Mode and it's at the bottom of the tool bar. You can use the paint brush and eraser to select and deselect when in that mode. Whatever is painted red is selected. Also the Hue/Saturation tool works well for color changes. Just depends on what the original color was. The grey is very easy to change with the selective color tool.
Here is the one I want... They are actually growing on me now.
