View Full Version : Carfax is useless

Our Mustang we traded in a month ago is finally listed for sale on the dealer's website. They give you the carfax on all their vehicles and the Mustang comes up clean. However, the car was hit in parking lot last August and the front fender was repaired and repainted and it shows up on the carfax as "Vehicle serviced" at the local Ford dealer where the repairs were done. I have never had much faith in carfax reports and this doesn't help that any... I feel bad for the next guy that buys it and doesn't know it has been repaired before, even though the repairs were done perfectly. The morons at the dealer also drilled holes in the front bumper to put on their ugly front tag. Not sure why you would put useless holes in the bumper, it ruined the look of the front end...

If anyone wants a well maintained 09 Mustang GT California Special with fresh paint on the passenger fender, there's one in Tulsa... :D

well that bites!

When they ran it when you traded it, they didn't stick it to you for having an "accident" did they?

Nope, I didn't bring it up and they didn't catch it...

They reported it, but it was reported as "Vehicle serviced." For all the next owner knows it could have been an oil change...

This was actually the Dodge dealer that put the plate on. They would have had to go to Ford to buy the bracket since I threw it away when I bought the car. They also put on their huge Chris Nickel decal on the trunk, just like they did on the Charger. That crap was off as soon as I got the car home.

This is why I have the dealer remove all decals from their business before taking ownership of the vehicle. No offense to them, but I refuse to hand them free advertising while my vehicle looks like shit.

And, I have seen several vehicle from Chris Nickel's dealership and they seem to like to advertise a hell of a lot more than most other places do. Last truck I saw from them was a 2010 3500 HD with Nickel mud guards and a gawdy Nickel dealership logo on the tailgate.

I removed the sticker while they were finishing paperwork. Lol - the salesman came out and looked at me like I was crazy. I told him if I had remembered my fishing line and eraser wheel the other badges would be off too. :-)

If I bought a 3rd gen, I would have been doing the same thing as well, but I like the badges on these trucks for some reason. :D

I wouldn't label it useless. There are plenty of people out there who's arses have been saved by CF.

I would take the time to report it to CF myself. They are trying to present a good product and if they know of abuse or misuse, it will help them improve it.

I never really trusted CarFax, but I'll still always run one just in case it did catch anything.

As for badges...I've yet to remove any...I'm lazy.

Morgan, they killed the front end of that car with that gigantic bracket.

I know! Even though it's not mine anymore it still makes me mad! I almost want to go there and complain about it...

My point exactly. The cost is nominal and it's better than the "NoFax" option.

By the way, cant make sense of your ID, so I am calling you Brian. Arise Sir Brian.
